SILENT PIZZAS?
In Dracula movies, once the heroes wise up, grab a crucifix, and go after the vampire things get resolved pretty quickly. Typically, the heroes don’t have to be clever, just courageous.AND THE OSCAR GOES TO…
In Nosferatu, no one even has to raise a crucifix against Count Orlok. He just seems to pick the wrong victim at the wrong time. It’s still a pretty great movie though.
Made just twenty five years after the book was written, it felt like the actors, their clothes, and the settings were very close to the time period of the novel….something that other adaptations of the novel had to work hard to recreate.
It’s hard to say whether one ought to consider this the definitive Dracula film. It is very good. Silent films have an unusual quality that I can still appreciate. They are closer to ballet or opera when they have full orchestra soundtracks. Like everyone else today, I’m more accustomed to modern movies (or at least ‘talkies’) but the best silent films are great to watch on special occasions.
